- COWDENBEATH RACEWALL -

-

There was a sombre start to the stock car meeting at the Cowdenbeath Racewall on Saturday evening when the cars lined up around the oval to pay their respects to Barry Jones.

The Jones family were in attendance as the drivers and spectators paid an emotional tribute.

The track was wet at the start to the meeting aœer a heavy hail shower and over the course of the meeting there were a few rain showers which made matters worse.

Despite this the drivers coped well with the conditions and there was plenty of exciting racing. Amongst those in action were Declan Honeyman (South Alloa.

In the opening heat D. Honeyman was soon running in a challenging position and coping with the conditions. In the end D. Honeyman brought his car home in fourth position with Rutherford Jnr finishing in eighth place.

The second heat saw D. Honeyman burst through into the head under very dark skies but during the closing stages was sent wide and eventually ended up as the runner up. The final was suspended aœer only a few laps aœer Marc Honeyman was sent crashing into the pit bend wall.

It was now raining making conditions worse and whilst D. Honeyman appeared in second he then dropped to third. On the last lap the leader was sent crashing into the pit bend wall and as he tried to recover D. Honeyman dived inside to grab the runner up spot. James

Gray (Bo’ness) was the only one of the local drivers to appear in the non contact ORCi Stock Rods. In the opening heat brought his car home in fourth place and then added a sixth in heat two.

The final proved to be fast and there was a lot of close racing. Gray made a good start from the rear of the field and began to make inroads on those ahead.

There was a late race stoppage which bunched the field up and, on the restart, Gray picked up a couple of places before chasing the leader across the finish line.

This Saturday, the Formula II drivers are back in action whilst the Saloons are back with us. The Prostock Basics return and along with the ORCi Ministox will serve up an all action meeting which starts at 6pm as usual.
