STEVEN BUCHANAN has his eyes set on nailing down the right winger position as he has signed a new deal with Alloa.

The youngster put pen to paper on Tuesday, making him the longest consecutive player to be in the club’s setup.

Buchanan joined Alloa in the U13s and has since risen to the first team, ticking off some careers first over the course of the season.

The winger began to gain plaudits following a sensational performance against Stirling Albion in the first match of Alloa’s League Cup campaign, starting as a right wing back under Brian Rice.

He followed this up with his first goal for the club, opening scoring for Alloa against Stenhousemuir in the League Cup.

Under Andy Graham, Buchanan was pushed higher up the pitch to play on the right wing, and went on to score three goals across 33 appearances for Alloa this season and will be looking to establish himself as a starter next year.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Buchanan talked through being able to play in his natural position as a winger as opposed to a wing back and his optimism heading into a new season with Alloa.

“It was difficult to play right wing back but I enjoyed it,” Buchanan said. “I’d much rather play higher up the pitch though.

“It gives me a bit more confidence knowing I’ve scored I’m not waiting on getting my first goal going into the new season.

“It feels good [to sign a new

contract]. Hopefully I can just get up and running again and start off well. It feels good though.

“I want to start a lot more games, get more goals and help the team more and hopefully avoid getting injured.”

Buchanan forms part of a

strong backbone of players Andy Graham has nailed down for next year.

The list so far includes PJ Morrison, Scott Taggart, David McKay, Morgyn Neill, Steven Hetherington, Kurtis Roberts, Stefan Scougall and Luke Rankin.
