Cut­tings in a con­tainer

1 Cut this year’s healthy growth in 6-12in (15-30cm) lengths with a slop­ing top (so rain­wa­ter can run off) and a flat bot­tom.

2 Dip the flat end of each length in a root­ing com­pound and then insert it into a pot of damp­ened cut­tings com­post mixed with sharp sand or per­lite.

3 Place the cut­tings in a cold frame or shel­tered spot and don’t let them dry out. The cut­tings will root and grow, and can be pot­ted on next au­tumn.
