How to keep baskets healthy

Amateur Gardening - - Your Gardening Week -

Hanging baskets take quite a lot of time and thought to put together, so you want them to last as long as possible.

Once they are hanging, make sure they don’t dry out or get too much water.

Keep plants flowering by deadheading and make sure you remove dead and damaged foliage to stop the spread of diseases.

Check for pests and deal with any you find immediately.

If high winds and storms are forecast, take down your basket and store it in a greenhouse, shed or well-lit porch. Position it so that it is raised on a pot or bucket. Return it outside when weather conditions improve.

Look after your basket and it will provide months of colour
