In my garden
TheRe’s a mature specimen of
V. carlesii at the back of one of my borders that illustrates the multiple virtues of viburnums. In addition to the colourful flowers and foliage – and the fragrance – it has glossy fruits that feed blackbirds and thrushes.
What’s more, although the growth is not especially dense, the leaves are arranged to hide the inside of the bush effectively so it has also proved a safe space for nests.
V. carlesii’s berries will attract hungry birds
