Check the name and re-write or re-la­bel each tree and shrub be­fore it fades, and also check each tree’s stakes and ties. 2

Cut back any herba­ceous flow­er­ing plants, globe ar­ti­chokes and as­para­gus stems af­ter their stems have with­ered or the plant loses nu­tri­ents. 3

Dig up and split up older con­gested herba­ceous plants, then re­plant the healthy ones in groups of five, seven or three. 4

Don’t give your house­plants a shock when you wa­ter – keep a full wa­ter­ing can near a ra­di­a­tor or an­other warm place.
