Don’t neglect greenhouse plants
Don’t ignore your tender plants just because you think they are safe in a frost-free greenhouse or porch.
In mild winters, tender perennials will keep growing and may even form flower buds.
Pinch out any buds and remove new leaves so the plant doesn’t waste precious energy.
Never feed in winter and only water if they start to droop.
Citrus trees, however, do need feeding through winter. Drip-feeders are a no-nonsense way of giving them the nutrients they need, or you can give a liquid feed when you water.
Never overwater – wait until the compost is almost dry.
