Tweak last year’s sowing dates

Amateur Gardening - - Your Gardening Week -

DID you have major successes and epic failures this growing season? Most fruit and veg gardeners have certain spectacular crops and a few disasters every year, which is partly due to the ebb and flow of weather conditions. Occasionally, though, it can be due to our growing skills and this is where we need to modify the way we cultivate specific crops.

Did you think your parsnips were puny, did your lettuce harvest come all in one glut, were your peas blasted by mildew before they had a chance to bear pods? These are all examples of where sowing dates can be tweaked, so check back on your records and adjust timings accordingly. No records to check? Put a notebook on your Christmas wish list!

One easy way to become a better gardener is to tweak any sowing dates that might have been ‘off target’
