A great AG offer that makes the perfect Christmas gift

Amateur Gardening - - This Week In Gardening -

IF you want to help to protect our embattled bees and give an unusual but useful present to a nature-lover, this exclusive AG offer will be right up your street.

MasonBees UK has set up a ‘Bee Guardian’ scheme to help reverse the declining number of mason bees, a solitary, non-stinging species known for its ‘awesome’ pollinating abilities.

To take part (or sign someone else up) you pay a one-off fee and are sent all the necessary bee-nurturing equipment, nesting tubes and instructions. Mason bee cocoons are sent out in spring and the bees emerge, pollinate your garden and nest in the tubes.

At the end of summer, any nesting tubes that have been capped with mud and contain bee larvae are returned to the company free of charge. They are screened for parasites and redistributed to the Guardians with new nesting tubes in spring. Leaf-cutter and blue mason bees species will also use the tubes when the red mason season is over.

There are three levels of equipment available, all including the bee cocoons. They are:

■ Standard Kit (£49.99 + £3.99p&p): Standard nesting tube holder, 50 nesting tubes, 25 tube refills, wooden release box and 20 red mason bee cocoons.

■ Wooden Kit (£59.99 + p&p): As above, but with a wooden nesting tube holder.

■ Lodge™ Kit (£79.99 + p&p): As above, but with a Bee Lodge™ replacing the standard holder.

AG readers can take up a unique offer of a £10 discount on each price between now and 31 December 2018. Visit the website at ma and key in the code AG2018 at the checkout. If you are buying as a gift, add the recipient’s name, address and email address at the time of ordering.
