Performance

Feels light and long. Shaft and handle offer nice grip – the raised rivets and socket edge are noticeable, but are no problem when digging. The blade slips into the soil easily and lifts a wellproportioned spit that’s controllable and easy to flip. Good leverage from the long handle. Wet soil sticks a bit, but pushes off easily.

Value

Slightly more expensive than the Burgon & Ball spade, but it’s an equally classy and polished performer.
