Why not try…?
■ Create a container pond in an old zinc bath (reclamation yards are good sources). Fill with water, then add some stones and aquatic plants like Equisetum and Iris pseudacorus.
■ Jazz up tired terracotta pots with a couple of coats of masonry paint.
■ Make plant labels from offcuts of wood. Paint white then use an artist’s brush and black paint to write the names of your plants.
■ Lift some slabs to create planting pockets in a patio. Add compost and plant with sun-lovers like thyme; they’ll appreciate the good drainage.
