This pretty variegated cultivar is slower-growing than the usual apple green P. tenuifoliu­m, and in our garden reaches 7ft (2m).

The ‘kerosene bush’ is a hardy silvery evergreen. Bears clusters of tiny reddish buds and white flowers in summer. Reaches 6ft (1.8m).

Pinus parviflora ‘Negishi’

A slow-growing form of Japanese white pine, with silvery blue-green needles and attractive cones. Reaches 6-8ft (1.8-3m).

Olearia traversii

From the New Zealand daisy bush tribe, this fast-growing, silveryfel­ted windbreak plant responds well to any kind of pruning.
