LAST summer, I decided to build a new pond to replace the old, rigid liner. On lifting it out, I found a large, round object 7in (18cm) across, which looked like a piece of fossilised wood. I laughingly said I would plant it in a pot and left it by the back door. By October, the pot was covered in a mass of cyclamen flowers that astonished everyone. It had been under the old pond for 10 years!
