Free seeds return for AG’s 135th anniversary

-

THIS is a very special year for Amateur Gardening. Founded in 1884, we are celebrating 135 years of gardening innovation, wisdom and strong practical advice.

The founding editor Shirley Hibberd was one of the most popular gardening writers of the Victorian era. He lived in London and pioneered the idea of urban gardening – a revolutionary move compared to the vast plots cultivated by the ‘gentlemen gardeners’ of the day.

Hibberd’s ethos of gardening for the everyman runs through AG to this day, including encouraging readers to grow new things.

One of the most popular aspects of AG is our packets of free seeds. To celebrate 2019’s prestigious anniversary, we have again teamed up with industry leaders and innovators Mr Fothergill’s to offer you a weekly supply of fantastic seeds, plus some very special packets from the RHS and Sarah Raven.

Each week, we will show you how to sow your seeds and successfully germinate healthy plants before taking you through the different stages of pricking them out, growing them on, hardening them off and eventually planting them out in the garden where they will give you vibrant colour and interest. All your favourites are included, from sweet peas and sunflowers to poppies, wildlife mixes, Brompton stocks, cosmos and more.

So didn’t forget to pick up next week’s Amateur Gardening, with its free packet of beautiful black-eyed Susan ‘Suzie Mixed’.
