When is a good time to trim a large bay tree?

AI would try trimming it back several times during the growing season, stopping in late September.
I would be cautious at this time of the year as, depending on where you are in the country, you could start getting early frost and this may damage the cut surfaces resulting in some damage and then possible dieback.
