Four autumn jobs to help keep lawns luscious
Edge borders and mow with blades set high, leaving some trimmings to rot down, feed the lawn and trap moisture.
Hoick out perennial weeds using a weed puller. If a hole or bare patch is left behind, sow with fresh lawn seed.
Aerate turf by sinking a garden fork 2-3in (5-7cm) into the lawn to let air and water down to the roots, strengthening the grass.
Resow bare patches. Fork over the soil, water, sow the seed, water again and use pinned netting to protect against hungry birds.
