Bob’s top tips for the week
1
Paint or spray non-setting sticky bands around tree trunks (below any ‘trap’ cardboard bands) in order to catch any pests coming down to hibernate for winter. 2
Pick apples and pears as they ripen and before they fall – lift the fruits gently and, if ready, they should come away easily. 3
If you haven’t done so already, bring any indoor tender plants outside so that they can be well ventilated for a few weeks during the last flush of sunshine. 4
Citrus can stay out longer if they are covered on frosty nights and if their pots are turned on their sides during heavy rain.
