Q

I wonder if anyone can identify this blue-flowering plant, please?

Mildred Hughes, via email

AWhat a splendid example of monkshood (Aconitum). It is probably A. carmichaelii ‘Arendsii’.

An erect perennial to 5ft (1.5m), it cheers with its glowing heads of deepblue flowers. Simply divide the clump into well-rooted portions in autumn or spring and set divisions in free-draining fertile soil in full sun.

Remember, it is very poisonous, so keep very young children away from it.
