Reach for the skies

STARTING off with a small canna plant that didn’t flower last year to this giant, I think I am going to try to overwinter it again!

I REALLY enjoy reading the Letters pages and looking at the photos from people who have grown flowers from the free seeds. This year, instead of growing the sunflowers on their own, I decided to plant morning glory around them and, as you can see, they have grown up the sunflower, giving lovely splashes of colour to the stalks.

I THOUGHT you might like to see my sunflowers grown on the allotment from seed given away with AG. The shortest is about 6ft (as expected from the packet). The tallest is now 8ft 9in (2.7m) to the top of the highest petal.

Here it is, a little bedraggled after the torrential rain of the night before.
