5 quick jobs

-

1 Keep harvesting French and runner beans – with regular picking and some liquid feed, they should carry on podding until the first frosts.

2 Help tomatoes ripen up by reducing their watering slightly, part-easing them out of the ground and removing any very small green fruits.

3 If you plan to utilise your greenhouse in winter for growing hardy veggies, wash off any shade paint to ensure sufficient light levels.

4 Lay some thick organic mulches (like garden compost) over any bare patches of earth. It keeps weeds at bay and is the start of a no-dig plot.

5 Place cloches over tender tubers such as sweet potatoes, oca and yacon to encourage a good yield. Don’t lift them just yet.
