It’s a spider, man
Q I was hoping someone may be able to identify the spider in this picture. We were not sure whether it was a harmless garden spider or whether it was a false widow spider. Trevor Bayes, via email A The spider in question could be the noble false widow (Steatoda nobilis). Regrettably, the image was slightly blurred so it was difficult to see its markings very clearly.
Though it can bite, and mild pain may be experienced in some cases, it is a relatively innocuous creature and not to be feared.
