Looks good with...
Cotinus
Turk’s cap lilies of any colour blend well with the purple foliage of the smoke bush; try ‘Royal Purple’ or ‘Grace’. Prune cotinus hard in spring to keep it to border-friendly size. H: 20ft (6m).
Ferns
Enjoying the same dappled shade as Turk’s caps, the soft greens of Polystichum (soft shield fern) provide a lovely contrast to their colourful flowers. Try P. setiferum ‘Herrenhausen’ (above). H: 21/2ft (75cm).
Astrantia
With their pincushion flowers and wiry stems, astrantias look lovely with L. candidum, and enjoy similar conditions. A soft pink like that of ‘Roma’ (above) is particularly good. H: 1ft (30cm).
Nepeta
The mauve haze of a low-growing catmint such as Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’ (above) – with its aromatic grey-green leaves and upright spikes of flowers – is an excellent complement to Turk’s caps. H: 21/2ft (75cm).
