Bulb planting knowhow
Ensure planting holes are deep enough – bulbs should be covered by twice their own depth of soil.
Buy tulips now while stocks are good, then store cool and dry, ready for planting in November.
Divide ‘slightly tender’ bulbs into two lots. Plant half in pots under glass; the other half outdoors.
After flowering, allow all bulbs to die back naturally because the leaves are feeding the bulbs. In lawns, this means no mowing while they are still green.
