Please could you identify my dahlias?

QCould you identify these two yellow dahlias? I believe that the red one is ‘Bishop of Llandaff’, but I may be wrong. Ken Barton, via email

AWithout doubt, the red-flowered dahlia is ‘Bishop of Llandaff’, a splendid variety enjoyed for its bronzy foliage and scarlet blooms.

As for the other two, the semidouble-yellow variety is probably ‘Alamo’ and the pale yellowish-pink one could be ‘Swan Lake’.

Both are beautiful and well worth caring for.

Ideally, feed them weekly with a balanced fertiliser, such as Vitax Q4 Flower & Fruit Feed, from April to September when they are growing.

After the frosts have blackened the leaves, cut them back and either leave in place and mulch well or lift and overwinter the tubers undercover.
