5 quick jobs

-

1 Order overwintering onion sets quickly – this is the best month to get them into the ground, because soil is warm and moist.

2 If you can’t bear to be without some summer radishes, sow a batch now in greenhouse borders for bulking up during late autumn.

3 Figs will continue to ripen quickly in warm spells, so be sure to check trees every few days for those sugarsoft harvests.

4 Hardy lettuces can be transplanted out under glass or rigid plastic cloches. A sheltered, sunny spot would also suit them well.

5 Fleshy leaves such as purslane, miner’s lettuce and agretti will continue to bear soft, tender shoots for salads and stir-fries.
