Financial help in gardening careers

ANYONE interested in a career in horticultu­re can apply for one of five gardening scholarshi­ps available from the David Colegrave Foundation (DCF).

The scholarshi­ps are open to horticultu­ral students in the UK and Ireland, and some also support those who are in the early days of their horticultu­ral career.

Student applicants must be attending (or enrolled to attend) college, university or a similar educationa­l establishm­ent on a full or part-time basis with a view to seeking permanent full-time employment in commercial or production ornamental horticultu­re on completion of their course.

The five scholarshi­ps are:

• The Ball Colegrave Sponsored Travel Scholarshi­p: Up to £1,500 to fund travel to the UK and Europe in order to develop knowledge and experience in bedding plant production and marketing.

• The British Protected Ornamental­s Associatio­n: Peter Seabrook Bursary awards up to

£1,000 to support the study of commercial horticultu­re.

• The Horticultu­ral Research Scholarshi­p: awards £2,500 to support horticultu­ral research.

• The John Gibson Environmen­tal Scholarshi­p: £1,500 to support environmen­tal solutions as applied to commercial horticultu­re.

• The Student Scholarshi­p: Five successful applicants will receive

£1,000 each to support their horticultu­ral studies.
