Sowing sunflowers inside and out

-

1 Sow the seeds 1/2in (1cm) deep in dampened compost, then lightly cover with another layer of compost.

2 Label your pots, modules or tray, add a lid and place them in an unheated greenhouse or cold frame.

3 If sowing direct, scatter seeds thinly on soil that has been cleared of debris, raked and dampened.

4 Cover the seeds with a light layer of soil, gently firm it and label, and protect with a pepper pest deterrent.
