What are these?

Q

A gardening friend gave me these, but can you tell me what they are? Joan Marsden, Huntingdon, Cambs

A

These are clay hydroleca pellets, usually used for growing plants hydroponically in a mix of water and liquid fertiliser.

They have little nutritional value, don’t promote growth and are best used as a 1in (2.5cm) layer at the base of the drip trays on which you stand houseplants.
