IT’S a busy month for seed sowing and I always make sure herbs grow amongst my veg as they are nature’s pest control.

Basil and marigolds will be useful companions to tomatoes, onions and carrots grow in alternate rows, and mint and catnip will deter ants and other pests. Fennel self seeds everywhere to bring in predatory ladybirds and the lemon balm flowers attract hoverflies. Much better to create a natural balance. Tilly Malcolm, Sheffield
