What is this plant?

QCan you please tell me what this plant is? Most of the flowers are near the top and there is a lot of bare wood on display, so should I prune to make it bushier? Sarah Welsh, Solihull

AThe mystery plant is a form of Cape figwort (Phygelius) probably P. x rectus, a hybrid resulting from crossing P. aequalis and P. capensis.

Both parents are natives of South Africa and are relatively hardy, surviving temperatures that for a short time drop below 32°F (0°C).

Cut back dead or dying shoots to healthy growth in spring.
