Spain was hit hard by the Euro­pean eco­nomic cri­sis and it is es­ti­mated that 3.4 mil­lion houses stand empty, af­ter housing es­tates were built by de­vel­op­ers cash­ing in on cheap loans and favourable govern­ment reg­u­la­tions. per­spec­tive on th­ese aban­doned de­vel­op­ments that litter Spain’s land­scape.

Markel Re­dondo was one of two win­ners of the re­cent DJI Drone Pho­tog­ra­phy Award and won a Phantom 4 Pro drone and £1,500 project fi­nanc­ing. He de­cided to re­visit this project that he first pho­tographed in 2010. He says, ‘ We live in a so­ci­ety with huge housing is­sues ... yet Spain has more than three mil­lion empty homes.’
