Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition
You’ve still got time to catch the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, celebrating the world’s best contemporary portrait photography. Featuring all the winning images, as well as those shots that made the shortlist, it’s definitely worth a visit. The studies all had to be taken within a year of the competition deadline date, so you’ll see plenty of contemporary issues on display.
Alice Mann’s winning series – the first time a series has taken home the main prize – on drum majorettes in South Africa, is a highlight of the show (see Photo Stories, AP 24 November). Some will argue that the exhibition needs a few more smiling faces, and while there’s definitely a penchant for the serious, a few light-hearted portraits will catch your eye too. The exhibition runs until 27 January 2019, admission £6 (with donation).
