Bridge of sighs
If it were not for two things – some saved birthday money and a tip- off from an excited relative – my first digicam would have
passed me by without a trace. The relative already owned a couple of early cameras but noticed an offer with a massive saving on a Panasonic Lumix DMC- FZ20, a 5MP bridge camera boasting a Leica lens for £199.95! My local retailer had stock and my short journey to collect this gem was a swift and exciting introduction to digital photography.
Thousands of pictures later the camera still has a place among others despite image noise limits in certain situations, but all forgiven in return for the lens’s optical quality. My policy since is to look for phased- out models still offering great specs but at knock- down prices. Peter Denham
