Kevin Cummins – So It Goes Lucy Bell Gallery

TO COINCIDE with a new book, So It Goes: Punk and the Aftermath by Kevin Cummins, an exhibition has been running at the Lucy Bell Gallery in Saint Leonard’s on Sea. The Cummins archive has been opened up to present more than 150 rare and unseen images from this seminal moment in cultural history.

Highlights include shots of Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Fall and Joy Division. Cummins was more often than not at the front of the stage capturing live performances from some of the most memorable and enduring bands from the time. Thirty-seven of these images are on display at the gallery, where you will also be able to buy limited prints from the archive, as well as signed copies of the book.

The exhibition runs until 17 January. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am–4pm, entry is free. Amy Davies

Annie Leibovitz At Work Annie Leibovitz, Phaidon, £39.95, 256 pages, hardback, ISBN 9780714878294

ANNIE Leibovitz is one of the most recognised and prolific photographers of the past 50 years. This reissue of 2008’s best-selling At Work has been revised and updated to include new shots from one of the world’s most famous portrait photographers.

Revealing the inner workings of Leibovitz’s creative processes, it details her extensive career from her early years as a young photographer for Rolling Stone through to her more recent work for Vanity Fair and Vogue. The book also charts a journey from analogue to digital, revealing how some of her most notable photographs came to be. Iconic images, such as the portrait of John Lennon and Yoko Ono taken just hours before Lennon’s assassination, are deconstructed, while new chapters feature images taken since the original book was published.

There are also tips, techniques and photographic advice. An engaging read for anybody interested in portrait, music and celebrity photography. ★★★★ ★ Amy Davies
