nancial struggles nationwide, why does it seem that camera makers are still producing expensive models?

There are plenty of other pressures facing households to make the buying of a new camera a low priority. A quick look through AP ads shows most cameras in four

gures, for the body only. Does aiming high when markets are down make commercial sense?

As you can see in our From the Archives feature (page 12), many current camera prices compare fairly well with those of the past. But even if a brand decided today to build a basic low-cost camera to re ect the current economic circumstan­ces (assuming it was nancially viable to do so, which is doubtful) it takes a couple of years to bring a camera to market from conception to sale so it would probably be 2022 before we saw it.
