Collectable cameras

- Rick Corbishley

I read your article on collectable cameras (AP 30 January) with great interest. I’m 64 but got my rst camera, an Agfa Iso Rapid 1, when I was about ten years old. Since then, with a few notable exceptions, all those I owned have long since disappeared. However, in about 2013 I started to get a feeling of nostalgia which resulted in me tracking down all but a few of those cameras. I still have my original Pentax Auto 110, Olympus 35RC and Olympus XA but wanted the others also. So, I scoured eBay and have now added the Rollei SL35M, Agfa and even a Fuji lm 2800 Zoom to my collection. I have to admit I don’t use any of them, I get my enjoyment from looking at them. I am regularly adding others to them, but one that eluded me all those years ago was a Rollei 35; I really wanted one but couldn’t afford it. I have it now though, and what a beauty.

I often search online for good examples of attractive and interesting cameras for my budding collection. It’s been a particularly good activity during lockdown. I’m learning about the thousands of different cameras, their origins, development and have added models from Voigtländer, Kodak, Dacora, Canon and Zenit to my collection. After reading your article I’ve decided to focus on a brand. I would prefer Kodak so it’s affordable, but I keep getting drawn to Rollei; there is something about them that I nd so appealing. So, thanks for the article; I’m starting a new leg of my journey, one I know I will enjoy.
