Back in the day, raw shooting was essential to get the best from the sensor, but in-camera JPEG processing has improved in leaps and bounds in recent years. Is there still a point to raw? Well, yes. As this week’s big feature shows, raw processing technology has been improving too. Modern raw editors are so much better than their predecessors that it’s well worth going back and reprocessing some of your old files to see how much better they look now. Also this week, we show a selection from the winners of this year’s World Press Photo, which celebrates and rewards the best in photojournalism. If you like cameras (and why wouldn’t you?) perhaps we can tempt you with our review of the pocketsized powerhouse of pixel perfection, the Ricoh GR IIIx, or for the bargain hunters, the sheer value for money of a used Fujifilm X-T20 – a great entry into mirrorless photography.
