Fran’s Gallego’s Picks! RetroDev Top 5
AMTIXCPC asked Fran to pick five games from the previous #CPCRetroDev competitions that he was impressed with but felt deserved more praise and light shone on them! Here are his top picks!
1: PINGU SOCCER - 2016
A sports game, this time like air hockey, but with penguins on ice. The most interesting part of the game is the quality of opponent’s AI. It is really enjoyable and challenging, and the game keeps you focused until you are able to beat the AI. With more work on championships, leagues, and other goodies, and some more polishing, it could be another great hit for the Amstrad.
2: TUNNEL EFFECT - 2017
A 2D Portal on an Amstrad CPC! The game is difficult to play due to the combination of keys and an improbable level design. However, it is incredibly daring and really enjoyable once you get to grips with it. Again, a concept not seen on Amstrad CPC.
3: FOSSBALL F3 - 2018
Amazing game about table soccer. Have never seen a game like this and I think the concept is incredible. It features a challenging AI, auto-control modes, different teams and colours, tactics and a really smooth and accurate simulation. Completely mind blowing!
4: LEAGUE OF TANKS - 2019
An interesting twist on tank battle games. It introduces 1-4 players with simple turning, moving and firing mechanics that make it quite challenging to control the tank and also to produce valid strategies against others. An interesting concept to explore further and produce more fun multiplayer tank games.
5: VANDAL BOX - 2020
An original and interesting puzzle concept. It’s quite playable and enjoyable in its present status, but the concept itself deserves consideration. Maintaining the mechanics, a good rework and polish of the game could potentially produce an innovative and amazing game for the Amstrad CPC.
