Spring contests

Anglers Mail - - Front Page -

IT’S BEEN ages coming, but shoots of spring are emerging.

Better than that, I am hearing of more and more tench being caught. To me, fishing wise, this species has long been a sign of springtime really arriving.

But even with cold nights still likely, you are in with a chance. The green ’un I’m holding below came on a pre-work session, with the air temperature around freezing.

Two of the finest minds in coarse angling, Darren Cox and John Bailey, both share their thoughts on spring tench inside this issue.

Not all us have time for John’s 20-day plan. If you’re committing to tench, his route to success is worth copying. Darren’s quick fixes are winners. After all, he never knows which peg he’ll be on, and has five hours to deliver.

WE’RE pleased this week to bring you two heavyweights from behind the scenes of televised sporting action.

Barry Hearn has done more for the popularity of TV snooker and darts than anyone, and hasn’t done badly with Fish’O’Mania and a few other sports. Former boxer Jess Harding also makes things happen, a real Mr Fix It, and a nice guy, too. But can they fish?

AM columnist Steve Collett acted as ref for an intriguing battle… one you won’t watch on Sky, BBC or ITV, but can read all about in p.16-19. I’m already looking forward to their rematch.

ENJOY the issue, and good luck on your next session.
