Match News IN BRIEF
Gloucester Canal Champs crown for Jon
THE top three in the annual Gloucester Canal Championships, fished this year by a highly creditable field of 48 anglers, drew within four pegs of each other in the bream hotspot at Netheridge.
Jon Tocknell (Sensas Lobby’s) lifted the coveted trophy and pocketed the lion’s share of pools money with 20 lb 6 oz of bream to groundbait feeder and maggot at peg 62.
Next door at 61, Neil Richards (Daiwa Gordon League) opted for pole and bloodworm tactics but came up just short with 18 lb 12 oz of bream and roach.
Andy Richings (Sensas Lobbys) slotted in third with 16 lb 1 oz of feeder-tempted bream at peg 59.
VICTORY in the final Wigston AS Dynamite Canal League round clinched the title for Graham ‘Squatt Wizard’ Smith (Preston Innovations Black Horse) on the boats/swingbridge section of the Grand Union at Loughborough, Leicestershire.
Graham’s 4 lb 12 oz comprised of 50 roach to bread punch and a brace of bonus perch on lobworm, leaving host club man Paul Taylor second with 3 lb 15 oz of bleak and a net perch. Graham ‘Wizard’ Smith was star man in the Wigston League.
With each angler dropping their worst result of five rounds, The Wizard emerged top with 5 points, ahead of Tom Pringle (Wigston AS) on 6.
