CABBIE Chris Weeder Jnr (Maver NW) steered his way into the 2018 Maver Mega Match This Final with victory in a 120-peg sellout qualifier at his local Partridge Lakes complex.

St. Helens rod Chris, a

2017 Fish‘O’Mania Finalist, drew peg 149 on the Cheshire venue’s Covey Pool 6, where he extracted 105 lb 11 oz of carp to 5 lb and F1s on 4.5 mm Spotted Fin expander pellets, feeding micros while exploring depths between 2.5 ft and 3 ft.

“I was happy to draw 149, an end peg, given the number of anglers in attendance. I hoped the fish would swim into the area. I caught from the off, but the stamp wasn’t great,” said Chris.

“Mid-match I changed tactics, going deeper with a heavier rig. After a nightmare, losing a couple of decent carp, I found the weight-builders, finishing with 70 fish, including a 5 lb carp on my last drop,” he added.

Lingmere Fishery owner Steve Openshaw pushed Chris all the way, but fell just short with 104 lb 6 oz from peg 2 on Spey Lake.

Triple Fish’O’Mania champ Jamie Hughes (MAP) slotted in third, weighing in 96 lb

2 oz of pellet-tempted F1s from Marsh Lake peg 9.

Mid-match I changed tactics, going deeper with a heavier rig.
