Bob Nudd MBE
like most anglers, scratched for perch, over two tough days.
What made this particular event special was that it was held on home soil, at Holme Pierrepont, in Nottingham. A 20,000-plus crowd watched
Bob clinch individual top spot and his team-mates take team Gold in the historic event.
Browning-backed Bob had now become a household name. He penned a number of books, made regular contributions to angling magazines, and released a number of popular videos and DVDs. He made appearances on mainstream radio and television shows, including the popular Wogan chat show. He even had minor chart success with his single Maggots In Ya Catapult, which reached No.118 in the charts (check it out on YouTube, if you fancy a chuckle). In 1996, the great man was awarded an MBE for services to angling.
Bob won World individual
Gold for a fourth and final time, in 1999, in Toledo, Spain, with an impressive weight of over 119 lb.
No longer in the England squad, he’s still a hugely popular character. A true angling legend.
