No stopping day ticket Stoppo’s
STOPPO’S FISHERY is a 2.5-acre, 32-peg lake in picturesque countryside on the South Derbyshire border with Staffordshire.
It is full of fish, and as the water warms, expect to catch carp from 6 lb to the mid-20s, tench to 6 lb, specimen bream to 10 lb, lots of skimmers, perch to over 3 lb and an untapped head of quality roach from 8 oz to 1 lb 8 oz.
There’s something to suit every angler at this water, at Coton in the Elms, near Burton upon Trent (DE12 8EE), whether you’re a specimen hunter or fancy catching top-notch silver fish.
Established by John Stevens in 2000, the pool is 30 ft deep in the middle, sloping up gradually to 4 ft around the margins.
Pole, Method feeder or waggler all work well. Maggots, pellets (fishery feed pellets only, available in 2 mm, 4 mm and 8 mm), corn, casters, luncheon meat and worms all produce bites, and bread punch over liquidised bread or bread flake on the bottom have been doing the job for the roach, bream and tench recently.
Previously a members-only venue, day ticket anglers are now welcome, and 27-year-old Polesworth rod Andy Fulleylove is now a partner in the fishery.
Andy has been fishing at the venue since he was 13 and also fishes many qualifiers for big competitions around the country, gaining a respectable third in the Maver Mega Match This Final at Larford Lakes in
