What’s be­ing caught? The old war­rior of a mir­ror carp known as ‘Sca­ley’ put in its first ap­pear­ance of the year, at 31 lb 14 oz, the cap­tor be­ing venue ex­pert Oliver Codling. Busy sport with carp av­er­ag­ing 3-4 lb on Lizzy’s Lake, with plea­sure

an­glers re­port­ing up to ten fish per sit­ting. Roach, rudd, pike, tench, bream and perch also show­ing.

Tac­tics? Boilies for the spec­i­men carp. Mag­gots, pel­lets and sweet­corn on a pole or wag­gler for mixed bags.

What’s be­ing caught? Lots

of dou­ble-fig­ure carp with a smat­ter­ing of 20 lb-plussers have graced the banks. Greg Szucs banked two 20s on the same day, a 23 lb fully scaled mir­ror fol­lowed by a 21 lb com­mon. Robert Waller mat­ted a 23 lb 9 oz mir­ror the pre­vi­ous day. Spec­i­men perch and roach are also present, along with lots of skim­mer bream.

Tac­tics? Leg­ered boilies catch­ing the most carp, with savoury flavours favoured. Try lob­worms or prawns for the perch.

Bream to 7 lb, hy­brids and roach to 10 oz show­ing, but some ar­eas re­main bar­ren. Coloured wa­ter from the River Nene is cur­tail­ing sport on Gun­wade Lake. Over­ton Lake is a bet­ter bet, with pegs 9-13 on the Ro­man Bank rated for nets to 50 lb-plus.

The var­i­ous feeder op­tions worth try­ing in­clude a cast of 20-30 m with a cage

feeder and ground­bait and red mag­gots, a 40-50 m line with a plas­tic open-en­der of ground­bait, damp­ened mi­cro pel­lets, worm and corn, or a long-range bul­let feeder and pink or yel­low wafters. Cock­tail baits com­bin­ing two or more of the afore­men­tioned of­fer­ings
