What’s being caught? The old warrior of a mirror carp known as ‘Scaley’ put in its first appearance of the year, at 31 lb 14 oz, the captor being venue expert Oliver Codling. Busy sport with carp averaging 3-4 lb on Lizzy’s Lake, with pleasure
anglers reporting up to ten fish per sitting. Roach, rudd, pike, tench, bream and perch also showing.
Tactics? Boilies for the specimen carp. Maggots, pellets and sweetcorn on a pole or waggler for mixed bags.

What’s being caught? Lots
of double-figure carp with a smattering of 20 lb-plussers have graced the banks. Greg Szucs banked two 20s on the same day, a 23 lb fully scaled mirror followed by a 21 lb common. Robert Waller matted a 23 lb 9 oz mirror the previous day. Specimen perch and roach are also present, along with lots of skimmer bream.
Tactics? Legered boilies catching the most carp, with savoury flavours favoured. Try lobworms or prawns for the perch.

Bream to 7 lb, hybrids and roach to 10 oz showing, but some areas remain barren. Coloured water from the River Nene is curtailing sport on Gunwade Lake. Overton Lake is a better bet, with pegs 9-13 on the Roman Bank rated for nets to 50 lb-plus.
The various feeder options worth trying include a cast of 20-30 m with a cage
feeder and groundbait and red maggots, a 40-50 m line with a plastic open-ender of groundbait, dampened micro pellets, worm and corn, or a long-range bullet feeder and pink or yellow wafters. Cocktail baits combining two or more of the aforementioned offerings
