What’s be­ing caught? Ide,

F1s, carp and skim­mers, with match weights to 80 lb on The Canal Lake and 70 lb on The Arc Lake, in­clud­ing a 64 lb bag of ide.

Tac­tics? Long pole shal­low has given the best weights, with banded cast­ers or hard pel­lets, de­pend­ing on what species you’re catch­ing. Pel­lets and corn in the mar­gins has also ac­counted for some good bags of bet­ter carp.

Renny Lake

Where? East Harlsey, Northaller­ton, North York­shire, DL6 2EA. Day tick­ets £7.

What’s be­ing caught? Roach and rudd feed­ing well, along with a few chub. Carp now show­ing all around the lake. Good mixed bags to be had if you get the feed­ing right. Tac­tics? Pole and cast­ers or mag­gots with a lit­tle-but-of­ten feed­ing regime for the best mixed bags and plenty of bites. Ex­pander pel­lets over cuppedin mi­cros or 4 mm hard pel­lets to tar­get the carp.

Sam Ho­sticks

Where? Plax­ton Bridge Road, Wood­mansey, Bev­er­ley, East York­shire, HU17 0RT. Day tick­ets £8. Tel: 07874 944094. What’s be­ing caught? Carp and ide mak­ing up the bulk of catches, with bream, tench, roach and perch as back-ups. Week­end match won with 100 lb on Moat Lake, plea­sure bags of 80-100 lb on Is­land Lake, while King­fisher Lake has given carp to dou­bles and ide to 5 lb. Tac­tics? Pole and 6 mm ex­panders over cupped-in mi­cros best for the carp. Pole with mag­gots and worms for the big ide. Start at full depth and shal­low up as the fish re­spond to the feed.

Where? Pleasley Road, Sh­effield, South York­shire, S26 3XL. Day tick­ets £5.

What’s be­ing caught? The heav­ily coloured wa­ter seems to have put the bream off the feed, but there have been some crack­ing bags of roach to 1 lb, along with skim­mers and perch to 3 lb. As the weather warms and the colour drops out, ex­pect some big bags of bream at the ‘neck end’ of the lake. Tac­tics? Long pole or whip with pinkies, mag­gots or cast­ers over an ini­tial balling in of ground­bait has brought the best bags of sil­ver fish. Ground­bait feeder with mag­gots, cast­ers and chopped worm for the bream, when they start feed­ing again.

Wet­lands An­i­mal Park

Where? Sut­ton cum Lound, near Ret­ford, Not­ting­hamshire, DN22 8SB. Day tick­ets £6.

What’s be­ing caught? Carp to dou­bles as well as stock­ies and some nice bream. Week­end match was won with an im­pres­sive 110 lb.
