GLOBE-TROTTING Mick Stevens has been getting in on the action, at home and abroad, with a fine 2 lb 10 oz rudd and some huge white sturgeon.

Mick, from Daventy, Northamptonshire said: “I have been having some variety recently. I caught eight white sturgeon over two days whilst holidaying in Canada with my wife Joanne, sandwiched between several visits to a Fenland river, where I caught some decent rudd, including a season best of 2 lb 10 oz.

“The sturgeon were all caught on 150 lb braid, 80 lb mono hook links, 24 oz running leads, 6/0 hooks and salmon section hook baits.

“The best were 110, 94 and 86 in. long, but I didn’t get weight estimates. The longest fight was just over two hours, in what was scorching sunshine of over 30 Celsius.

“To see these magnificent fish rise out of the water when hooked was amazing, and the fight thereafter was exhilarating. It was one hell of an experience. My wife also had a brace of sturgeon, the longest 5 ft long.

“The rudd were all caught early in the morning in 3 ft of water, on a self-cocking float, 6 lb Double Strength line and bread flake or crust on a size 10 hook."

GAVIN COPE set a new PB with this 15 lb bream from Top Lodge Fishery, at Chorley, in Lancashire. The 49-year-old taxi driver from Blackpool added a 17 lb mirror carp, using a 12 mm almondflavoured pop-up and a grain of plastic corn on a KD rig.

Close to home – Mick Stevens’ best rudd, of 2 lb 10 oz.
