What’s being caught? Mainly bream to 6 lb. Expect big bags when located, with roach, dace and occasional carp.
Tactics? Pole and stick float with maggots will produce roach. If the bream show, swap to a feeder or hold back on a pole with corn and worms over groundbait. Lure fishing produces perch and pike. No night fishing, but the bream show in the evenings, so don’t leave early.

This tiny tidal river has some surprises, having being stocked from floods on neighbouring lakes. Expect carp well into doubles, chub to over 4 lb and plenty of roach and a few big perch. Tactics? Travel light and check out all the deeper parts at low tide with a simple light leger and bread, maggots or worms, or trot at high tide.
Where? Wittersham, East Sussex. Access to River Rother Association waters through a number of clubs, including Rye DAS, or Clive Vale AC with membership at £50.

Good bags of bream to over 7 lb and a few roach to over 1 lb, with decent perch, pike to over 20 lb and a few carp and barbel. Tactics? Bigger pike mostly to boat anglers fishing deadbaits, but lures certainly worth casting around from the bank. Bream and roach on groundbait feeder, after dark is best.
