Roach to 8 oz, dace to 4 oz, perch and chublets ga­lore in day­time ses­sions. Four of the top five weights in the re­cent Bed­ford Hos­pi­tals Cup Open came from this stretch, led by Paul Reynolds with 20 lb 12 oz of roach. Early morn­ings or late evenings for the larger chub, tench and a chance of a rare barbel.

Tac­tics? Pole, long whip or stick float with red and bronze mag­gots, cast­ers and hemp for the roach and dace. Leg­ered pel­lets or boilies for a big chub or barbel.

What’s be­ing caught? Qual­ity roach, chunky perch and lots of bleak, dace and chublets feed­ing well be­tween Bushy Cor­ner and the town bridges. Big­ger fish, in­clud­ing tench, bream, hy­brids, chub, carp and pike, also present through­out. Tac­tics? Try hemp, tares or el­der­ber­ries on pole or wag­gler to tempt the larger roach amid the big shoals of sil­ver fish. Pinkies over ground­bait for bite-a-chuck ac­tion from ‘ev­ery­thing with fins’. Chopped worm for the perch and tench.
