Best specimen river ever?
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE’S River Trent is continuing its dominance of the specimen scene with a another string of fine barbel and chub catches.
Topping the lot was a PB
15 lb 8 oz barbel for Ricardas Aleksandrovicius.
Local Ricardas said: “It fell to a Noble Baits Premonition boosted hook bait from Future Fishing, in Newark.
“I presented it over hemp and Dynamite Shrimp & Krill Big Fish River Groundbait, a tactic that has caught nearly 100 barbel this season.”
And Congleton, Cheshirebased Darren Maloney set a new PB with a 15 lb 5 oz barbel.
The 45-year-old angler said: “I was fishing in 8 ft of slack water, feeding chopped and whole 14 mm Redemption boilies from 3 Foot Twitch and using a whittled-down glugged wafter on a German rig.
“I was woken at 1am by a screaming run, and as I hit into the fish, I knew she was a good specimen. The fight went on for a good 15 minutes as I tried to keep her out of the snags.
“Once I netted her, I looked into the net and knew she was a PB straight away, as my previous best was 12 lb 4 oz.”
And Ryan Ward also nabbed a PB barbel with this 14 lb 2 oz Trent titan.
Thame, Oxfordshire-based Ryan, 42, used a Mad Baits 15 mm Pandemic boilie with a PVA bag of freebies.
