British record wrasse

Anglers Mail - - Anglers - To Bruce, the worst season he could remember.

Over the page from Bruce, there was a bumper catch of impressive-looking sea fish, including a double-figure bass caught by Peter Bawden, from Plymstock. The prize capture must surely have been the ballan wrasse tempted by beaming David Gabem, as it weighed 7 lb 13 lb oz 4 dr – a new British record. The Bristol man caught it on a live sandeel, at Start Bay, in Devon.

Colourful catches

Two stunning fish graced page 2 this week, in colour, too! First up was a huge roach of 3 lb 2 oz, caught by Dorset carpenter Paul Sloane, fishing an undisclosed stretch of the Dorset Stour. Linklegered sweetcorn on a size 12 hook to 3 lb line did the trick, earning Paul the coveted Swan 3000 Weekly Winner award, along with a cheque for £40.
